If you have a Kindle 3 ebook reader, chances are, you already have a cover for it. If you don’t though, you may want to check out the Kindle Cover with Light.
I have one of these myself, but even though I’ll admit to being pretty smitten with it – I’ll do my best to give a subjective view in this article!
Kindle cover with Light -Available at Amazon
The Kindle Cover with Light is perfect for all those occasions when you want to read when it’s dark, but you either don’t have access to, or don’t want to use, a light.
For example; (and you can take all these as ‘pros’!)
- When you want to read in bed, but you don’t want to get up to switch on a light.
- When you want to read in bed, but you don’t want to wake up someone sleeping next to you.
- When you’re at the movies but you’re not really into the film!
- When you’re on a night flight.
- When you’re travelling at night – on a train or bus, or in the back of a car.
I’ve probably missed a few examples off the list, but you get the picture!
I love to read – ever since I could carry one, I’ve always taken a book with me wherever I go. More often than not, it was a big book, because I read pretty quickly, and small books didn’t last long. So you can imagine that when I got my first ebook reader, I could barely contain my excitement! To be able to carry around, and have access to, hundreds of ‘books’ in this tiny package was amazing, and I was in my element.
OK, there are a couple of ‘cons’ coming up.
When I bought my Kindle 3, I didn’t get it with a lighted cover. To be honest, I thought it was an extravagance I could do without. It’s not hugely expensive, but the price of the Kindle Cover with Light is, in my opinion, the only real negative. I was thinking about purchasing a regular case, but I figured that by the time I’d bought it, together with a clip on reading light, I might as well just pay the extra and get it all combined.
And you know what? I’m glad I decided to go for the lighted cover, because I got a discount on the price, which meant that it ended up costing less than some of the full-price cheaper covers!
To be honest though, now that I’ve used it, I can honestly say that I would have been more than happy to pay full-price for it – I already loved the Kindle 3, but the lighted cover has made my Kindle reading experience even more enjoyable.
If I had to be really picky and give you another negative to consider, albeit very minor, it would be that when I first used the reading light, I found it a little distracting. That said though, after an hour or so, it became much less of a distraction and these days, I don’t even notice it’s there.
Here’s a little bit about the features of the Kindle Cover with Light; (more ‘pros’)
- It’s a good quality case, fashioned from textured leather with a soft microfiber lining to help prevent your Kindle 3 from becoming scratched or damaged.
- It has a compact, lightweight and easily portable design.
- The rounded corners mean that there are no pointed edges, making it more comfortable to carry. For extra comfort, the cover folds right back on itself which means that you can easily read your Kindle with one hand if necessary – for example, if you’re standing on a crowded train or bus – without worrying about any sharp corners digging into your fellow passengers.
- It’s available in seven funky colors: black, burnt orange, chocolate brown, green,
hot pink, steel blue and burgundy red, so you’re bound to find one in a color to suit you.
- The internal hinge ensures that the Kindle 3 remains securely clipped into the spine of the Kindle Cover with Light. In addition, when the cover is closed, there’s an external strong, elastic strap which keeps the case firmly shut.
- No batteries are required to operate the light. The case is designed with a special gold hinge* system which, when the Kindle 3 is clipped into the case, allows a current to pass through directly into the device itself. This current keeps the Kindle powered and the light charged, so you don’t have to keep running out to buy batteries! (* When I first bought the cover, I was concerned that the hinge may be a little bit flimsy, but it isn’t).
- The light is retractable and pulls up and out from the inside of the case when you want to use it. When you’ve finished, just slide it back, out of sight until the next time you need it.
All in all, in my opinion, the Kindle 3 is a great reading device, which is made even better by the addition of the perfect buddy, the Kindle Cover with Light, which (also just my opinion!) is worth every last cent. And yes, I know I haven’t given you many negatives to chew over, but that’s only because I don’t really think it has any – honestly.
If you’d like to take a look at one for yourself, just click here to go to Amazon.com – they often have discounted items, so you may even be able to get yourself quite a saving.
By the way, if you’d really like a Kindle lighted cover, but you can’t quite stretch to the full-price, you may like to consider a refurbished or used item. The only drawback with this is that you may not be able to get the color you want, but if you’re not too worried about that, then it’s certainly worth a look!
Thanks for visiting my blog and happy shopping! I hope you find what you’re looking for.
